A ‘Management Representative’ responsible for an organisation’s Quality function is the one (person) who is empowered, equipped and entrusted. He is an organization’s representative, both for progressing two way communication (between management and people) and for due monitoring and control of various Quality Functions in the organisation.
He has the responsibility and the authority. Both should be exercised well. As the role is of a higher order. Abedi has it described:-
“The conventional definition of management is getting work done through people, but real management is developing people through work.” (Agha Hasan Abedi)
Under the mandate of QMS standard: ISO 9001:2000, the Management Representative takes on added responsibility to implement, upgrade and maintain the QMS. He is a key conduit between top management, all employees, and the customer. He keeps the lines of communication flowing and reports on the system’s performance and effectiveness,. In addition to understanding the company’s processes and the requirements of the QMS standard, the MR faces the additional issues of balancing conflicting priorities to obtain the support of his peers, his management and, at the same time, work with customers and registrars.
The Management Representative, while seeking due indulgence in sorting out the problems if any, must seek proven strategies for maintaining an effective system, and support the top management in developing a partnering relationship with customers. MR must, in addition, integrate the management initiatives to achieve strategic company goals and maximize profit. The Management Representative In the new ISO based standards has the additional responsibility to ensure that the QMS remains effective and that it enables continuous improvement.

If verse is not terse!

The MR is a Key person,
Who ensures the Quality Functions,
nursed ‘ab initio’, in harmony and unison,
thru” Suppliers-customers, and organisation
such that QMS remains effective without any aberration.
In that Process of Quality Deployment,
MR monitors organisation’s resource requirements,
and caters to the continual improvement supplements
Maintaining Product realization and Technology developments,
For an all-round increment in QMS @ Management’s commitments.
