Subject:
While Competitive Product Development is prime on the national agenda of Quality improvement, achieving design competence @ engineering education of PEC students is an objective PEC has outrightly pursued in the last 4 years. First it was ‘Technical Arts’ introduced as a part of BE curriculum. After the recently celebrated successes in Moon Buggy design, and widely acclaimed product development -the Moon Impact probeby an Alumnous of PEC; it was now a turn for putting innovation stimulus in a newer mood. The day of 29th Sept. dawned with a seminar on interdisciplinary subject “Competitive Product Development”, organised by Met Engg Deptt, PEC, which was inaugurated by an eminent Engineer Mr G K Pillai, CMD of Heavy engineering Corporation, Ranchi. Mr Pillai, an alumnous of BITS Pilani, maintained his love for promoting excellence in product designing, by presiding over the seminar at 10 am in Chandigarh, while HEC’s Board meeting awaited his presence at Ranchi at 6 pm. PEC is indeed fortunate for the industry’s support to her growth. In co-chair was our BOG chairman Er Chandra Mohan, Padam Shree, reiterating his thrust on design. Competitiveness and skill with attitude of students is a precurser of National Development..
The seminar was supported by The Institute of Indian Foundrymen. and lunch by Creative Infocom P ltd Noida. The two other supporters namely : Mohali Industrial association, and Terminal Ballistic Research Lab are infact long term accomplice of PEC, as we at PEC have an MOU with each of MIA and TBRL for strengthening Academia, Industry and Research collaboration respectively. Five case studies (e. g. Bio Mimicry towards a new concept in product development, conceived by Mr P J singh ) were presented about ‘the new entrerprise’ in entrepreneurial excellence by MIA member industries. The thrust on creativity was thus sustained through out the day.
Prof Manoj Datta, Director PEC earlier applauded this interaction and collective wisdom, saying that the collaborative venture should spell a new spate of win-win with PEC and industry coming together. In the welcome address HOD Met Engg and organising Chairman of seminar, Prof P Thareja, talked of the prospects that lay ahead for good product designers, and elaborated the finer minute-to minute plans of the day, namely the Rapid Protyped development of products, duly demonstrted by Prof Y P Kathuria, professor Electronics Engg deptt of Aichi Univ of Technology, Toyota, Japan and Mr SP sharma, MD of Creative infocom who demonstraed development of Scanned Images ready for prototyping, both in the Plenary lecture session..
Others who spoke included Mr B S Sangha, of the innovations at Institute of Auto Part Technologies, Mr Sanjiv Singh Gillard Electrons, Ms Shruti Shaw displaying actual product successes and many more, including Wg commander H S Anand, and Col Jitebndra Jain on Simulation of Guns etc. In addition 20 papers were presented.
The Valedictory session was chaired by Dr satish Kumar, Director TBRL. Dr Satish also presented the algorithm of Product development through R & D.
The two Vote of thanks were delivered by MR B S Anand, and Mr R K Mehta, the chair of MIA and IIF respectively.
Attended by 90 odd delegates, the seminar marked a modest attendance of 50 professional in the end, which %age wise validated the interests revered speakers generated through their demonstrations and multimedia..
