Harvey defines Quality Assurance In higher education as what “[1] pertains to the collections of policies, procedures, systems and practices internal or external to the organisation; designed to achieve, maintain and enhance quality”. Assurance of quality in higher education is a process of establishing stakeholder confidence that fulfill expectations or measures up to threshold minimum requirements.
Need for QA in Education
Mentoring students or children is always a tough task. But if the child is put on - perfectly - over a path to success, half the job is done [2](which implies: Well begun is half done. Dr W Edward Deming[3], the Quality Guru, also emphasised the role of society to rear/nurse the children through a rigourous process to maturity with sound growth. It is because “the requirements regarding the improving of ‘peoples’ excellence’ takes a front seat today” and “the opportunity to develop tomorrows Quality people is afforded not later than today”. As “the people are developed, the backbone gets stronger.Thareja,[4], Hence there emanates an all-round benefit. Thus the attempts on improving the Competency and/or Quality attributes is vital. The vehicle which implements it is termed Education. Until the process quality is assured, the objectives may not be realised[5].
Implementing Quality in Education
The Quality indeed depends upon the process approach. If process is right, product essentially would be fit for purpose. To impart process the requisite Quality, People should be equipped and made competent. the success depends upon right implementation. Because ‘People’ are the primary growth paths and/or the communicating channels of the organization are vital, implementation of Quality assurance should be not only foolproof, but also strategic.
“Right implementation of Quality begins by mature planning. The planning emphasises development of requisite culture. It is said that there is nothing in a name, but name a child Deming and watch the difference. Chances are that he grows to be a Deming”. Thareja [6]”reiterates the need for inculcating Quality right from beginning. Presumably, a well honed process indeed be resorted to while rearing a child”.
Modus-Operating of Quality Assurance in Educational process
The success of an academe is in understanding the necessities of student and then impart requisite education stimulus.
Essentially all desired competencies need to be developed by the academe in the class The teacher has a difficult role to play, and therefore deserves accolades for a competent professional. Thareja and Thareja [7] proposed a 5′C’ model for implementing competencies, in people which is applicable to even academics.
